Influence Architecture

You have the expertise. We build the thought leadership architecture to make sure it’s heard.

Deep thinkers — advocates, academics, authors, and technical pioneers — carry a consequential idea but rarely have the system or the time to move it. And ideas that don't move don't count. Citygate designs the strategic scaffolding that carries that vision into the rooms with the authority to act on it. We turn hard-won, complex knowledge into institutional influence, market authority, systemic change, and lasting legacy.

Why now

In the AI era, judgment, perspective, and a name behind the ideas is worth more now than ever.

Anyone can generate a thousand words in a minute. No one can generate what a long career produces — the judgment, the hard-won instincts, the earned right to a point of view. That kind of intellectual capital can't be synthesized, and it's never been more valuable. We work with the people who have it: leaders with decades of mileage who are still set on shaping what comes next. We’re a thought partner in sharpening the idea and deciding who needs to hear it — then we carry the execution, so your calendar stays clear for the work only you can do. This is bespoke, collaborative work, built entirely around you.

How it works

We make important ideas impossible to ignore.

We've spent our careers learning how to tell other people's stories. Now we build the systems that carry them — across print, online, audio, video, and the stage. We won't write in your voice or claim your expertise, but we are a genuine thought partner: helping you sharpen the argument and decide which audiences matter, then designing the path that puts it in front of the people with the authority to act. Every engagement is crafted to fit you and the audience you're after.

What this is

  • A thought partner who helps you sharpen the idea and find its audience
  • Architecture for how your argument reaches its audience
  • Direct access to the audience you most want to reach
  • Content reshaped specifically for each medium — print, audio, video, and the stage
  • Editorial judgment about which format serves which idea
  • Strategic leadership, scoped and packaged

What this isn't

  • Ghostwriting in your voice or speaking for your field
  • Press-release PR or one-time media pushes
  • An audience you rent from a platform you don't control
  • A task-by-task production vendor or technical documentation service
  • Diluting your expertise or over-simplifying complex arguments for mass-market clickbait
  • Purely theoretical consulting that leaves you without the infrastructure to execute

Who Makes It Work

Carolyn McCulley, Founder of Citygate Communications

Carolyn McCulley

Founder / CEO

Carolyn McCulley has spent her career at the intersection of media, publishing, and strategic communications. She is an international keynote speaker and the author of three books — which have been translated into multiple languages and sold globally — as well as a contributor to three more.

As a filmmaker, she has produced more than 200 short films for corporate and nonprofit clients, alongside dozens of podcast episodes that she has both hosted and produced for others.

At her core, Carolyn is intensely curious about new ideas and genuinely loves a steep learning curve. She excels at solving complex story structure problems. Whether she is untangling a narrative for a documentary, structuring a book, or designing a podcast, her goal is to close the gap between irreplaceable knowledge and public presence. That range of production experience means she understands the story's native format and how to adapt it in varying ways — before the camera, behind the microphone, on a page, or from the stage.

Selected work

Our work taught us how influence actually moves.

Before we formalized our strategic architecture, we built the narrative components as a media company.

The selected work below represents the foundation of Citygate's trajectory. These films and audio podcasts were not built from a pre-existing template; rather, they were the testing grounds where we learned how ideas gain traction, alter institutional behavior, and shift public awareness. Across more than 200 branded-content films, independent documentaries, and investigative audio series, our award-winning portfolio represents the foundational proof that a precisely structured narrative can change what people do.

Catastrophic Outcomes: Jack Gentry's Story

MedStar Health sought to fundamentally transform how medical errors are reported, addressed, and prevented across its hospital network. As the lead pilot partner in a multi-million dollar initiative funded by the federal AHRQ (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality), MedStar helped design and test what became the CANDOR (Communication and Optimal Resolution) toolkit — now the national standard for healthcare transparency. This film was produced not just to document the process, but to serve as a vital institutional tool: demonstrating to hospital administrators nationwide that transparency in the face of medical error creates measurably better outcomes for both patients and healthcare systems.

The Infinite Corridor: Safeguarding the Future

This special episode of The Infinite Corridor podcast features MIT biologist Kevin Esvelt, a pioneer in genetic engineering. Esvelt's breakthrough work with CRISPR-based gene drives pushed his career directly from straight science into the realm of existential safety and ethics. Approaching artificial intelligence not as a computer scientist, but as an evolutionary biologist, Esvelt evaluates the rapid advancement of frontier models as a branching "tech tree" of scientific discovery. He argues that as AI inevitably automates its own research and transitions into autonomous agents, humanity must confront how we guide a technology that will ultimately outpace our biological capabilities.

The Bee Understanding Project

In 2016, colony collapse disorder posed an existential threat to global agriculture. However, the friction preventing a unified solution was as much structural as it was biological: farmers, commercial beekeepers, crop advisors, and entomologists were operating in isolated silos, frequently misunderstanding the economic and operational realities of their counterparts. Sponsored by the Honey Bee Health Coalition, this documentary project engineered a literal perspective shift by having these four distinct stakeholders swap jobs. The result was a coalition-building tool that turned a complex, multi-stakeholder environmental challenge into a shared human story — and moved participants toward coordinated action.

Noisy Skies

Federal aviation policy and airspace management are often opaque and difficult for impacted communities to navigate. The Noisy Skies podcast was designed as a public literacy and engagement tool to bridge this gap, translating dense regulatory frameworks into an accessible narrative. The series was built to drive structured action: helping citizens move past general frustration and transition into organized, technically literate advocacy capable of interfacing with institutional decision-makers. Named a Top 100 Aviation Podcast by Feedspot.

Advocacy

The Safe to Speak Initiative

Citygate doesn’t just build influence systems for others — we currently run one. The Safe to Speak Initiative is our own dual-track campaign: a documentary podcast series and short documentary film building public awareness of survivor silencing, and a parallel legislative advocacy effort pursuing statutory reform at the state and federal level. The goal is institutional accountability and durable policy change — pursued through the same storytelling-to-advocacy architecture we design for clients.
